Ben Affleck suggests The Flash will be his last Batman movie

Ben Affleck is returning as the Dark Knight in some capacity in this year’s The Flash, which will feature a multiverse storyline that also allows for the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman. Afflecks DCEU run has been successful in terms of fan acceptance but the films he appeared in were met with polarizing results. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was poorly received while his experience shooting Justice League after Zack Snyder had to depart and Joss Whedon was brought in, was the start of a very problematic tale that didn’t get fully resolved until the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League last year. Despite the issues, Affleck has love for the character and he’s revealing that his favorite Batman scenes have been the ones he filmed for the upcoming The Flash movie, even if they’re likely his last as the Caped Crusader.

During a recent chat with The Herald Sun, Affleck spoke on his Batman scenes in The Flash and he specifically pointed to the fact that he believes his moments as the character in the film were some of the best material he has shot for the role in the DCEU. The actor also hopes that the final cut “maintains the integrity” of the Flash scenes that he loved:

“I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done, were in the Flash movie … I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character. Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.'”

He added that The Flash (and Zack Snyder’s Justice League) put a “nice finish” on his experience with the character.

Ben Affleck has previously said that he had fun playing Batman in The Flash, particularly after the difficult Justice League shoot. Affleck spoke with “Variety” about reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Andy Muschietti-directed The Flash back in October of last year and said, “It was a really nice way to revisit that as the prior experience had been difficult. This was really lovely. Really fun.”

The Flash is reportedly inspired by the fan-favorite “Flashpoint” comic book storyline that sees the character travel back in time to prevent his mother’s murder to only “inadvertently create another universe.” The movie will explore the idea of a “multiverse” existing with the DC Cinematic Universe. Ezra Miller is once again playing the title character and the cast also includes Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdu, and Ron Livingston.
