I reviewed BENEATH THE DARKNESS a couple of weeks ago; a rather negative review, it was. My gut tells me that it will be a strong contender at the end of this year for worst film of 2012. That’s saying something in January. If you don’t want to take my word for it, however, you’ll get be able to check it out for your own self when it heads home at the end of February.
Image Entertainment will release BENEATH THE DARKNESS on FEBRUARY 28th on DVD and Blu-ray. The “small-town shocker” (their words) stars Dennis Quaid as Ely, the well-respected mortician of rustic Smithville Texas, where he was once a heralded high school football star. Among the kids, however, he is legendary for a more sinister reason — rumors that his house is haunted. The truth is, this pillar of the community is actually a flesh-and-blood monster who buries his victims alive; a sociopath who befriends adults and police while openly flaunting his murderous intentions to the youths. Beware Ely’s charming smile – it may be the last thing you see, looking up from your freshly dug grave…
There won’t be much in the way of special features; the disc will include a behind-the-scenes featurette and the original theatrical trailer. Nothing else; if I had my way, I’d make Dennis Quaid record an audio commentary/confession.
The Martin Guigui-directed film also stars Tony Oller, Brent Cullen and Aimee Teegarden (pictured below). Pre-order the Blu-ray right HERE or the DVD HERE if you’re feeling frisky.
