Why Did JoBlo Call Beware Boiúna the Greatest Killer Snake Movie of All Time?

Tyler’s review gives the movie an enthusiastic recommendation, particularly for its decision to treat its giant snake as a genuinely frightening creature rather than an excuse for campy laughs.

The film follows a group of doctors on a medical mission in the Amazon rainforest. When their journey takes a horrifying turn, they find themselves pursued by a man seeking revenge and hunted by a colossal snake known as the Boiúna.

Tyler praised the serious tone, unexpected twists, tension, and visual effects used to bring the creature to life. He also highlighted the performances of Jessica Rothe, Kiana Madeira, and Logan Marshall-Green, noting that the characters are compelling enough to make their fight for survival matter. As explained in his review, giant snake movies have rarely managed to deliver a truly great example of the genre. He considers Beware Boiúna a major exception, putting it ahead of the competition.

Mike P. Nelson directs from a screenplay by Alan B. McElroy, whose credits include Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and the original Wrong Turn, as well as Nelson’s Wrong Turn reboot. The story comes from McElroy and Tony Giglio.

Nelson has built a reputation in the horror genre with films including The Domestics, Wrong Turn, and Silent Night, Deadly Night, plus the Friday the 13th short Sweet Revenge.

Are You Ready to Meet the Boiúna?

Beware Boiúna is now available to purchase digitally, with Blu-ray and DVD editions arriving next month. If you’ve been looking for a killer snake movie that takes its creature seriously, Tyler Nichols thinks this one is the real deal.
