Now if you haven’t been watching Season 2 of “The Walking Dead” then you should be aware that from here on it could be considered *SPOILER TERRITORY.* You’ve been warned.
You see there’s an ongoing storyline currently blasting through the show, one which I could care less about might I add, where Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies – below) is pregnant and is trying to figure out what to do about it. Apparently the idea of ‘the morning after’ pill came up and because of it the show is getting blasted in controversy.
The American Civil Liberties Union hit hard with a blog post that included the following: “Walking Dead Is Wrong on Emergency Contraception, Stick to Zombies: The Walking Dead’ is not doing its fans or themselves any favors by promoting false information. Lori is several weeks pregnant and the morning-after pill can’t induce a miscarriage. What it can do is prevent pregnancy if taken within 5 days of unprotected sex; although the sooner it is taken the more likely it is to work.”
Ouch. “Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara quickly stepped up and issued his own statement: “The producers and writers of ‘The Walking Dead’ are fully aware that the morning-after pill would not induce an abortion or miscarriage. We exercised our artistic creative license to explore a storyline with one of our characters, not to make any pro-life or pro-choice political statement. We sincerely hope that people are not turning to the fictional world of ‘The Walking Dead’ for accurate medical information.”
Well put Mr. Mazzara. Let’s take a second and consider that everything that happens on “The Walking Dead” is for real… Then we’d be pretty f*cked, no? To be fair ‘Lori’ doesn’t seem to be all that smart anyway…
Let’s chalk this up to society getting it’s panties in a bunch and hope it doesn’t get worse.
