I’m not sure how many of you out there got to try the video game LOST PLANET, but I’m willing to bet the verdicts were all the same. The marketing for this game was top notch. When this thing was hitting shelves, everybody knew about it! They had advertisements and commercials everywhere and they were pretty damn cool too!
And then we played the game. To be fair I wasn’t completely dissatisfied with LOST PLANET, but it just wasn’t anything new. I’d seen it all before. But alas, unorginialty means nothing to Hollywood when there’s money to be made! So of course there’s a LOST PLANET movie in the works.
But that’s not the news today. The update today comes from Empire and has LOST PLANET scoring a pretty big budget. Nay, did I say big? I meant huge! Toshihiro Tokumaru, Capcom’s ‘Head of Character Contents’ is pegging LOST PLANET to cost $150-$200 million! That’s a pretty penny.
Why might it cost that much? Well we’ve got high tech machinery on an isolated planet covered in snow with humans battling aliens. Alright, I can see that. At least the big budget means we may be in for something worth checking out! The game follows a group of humans who have to keep killing the alien Akrids to use their thermal energy to survive in the frozen climate of the planet EDN III. But there’s an intricate plot as well, involving a mysterious corporation (NEVEC), a terraforming plan and the fate of main character Wayne Holden’s father Gale.
Avi Arad is already in line to produce the flick with X-MEN 2’s David Hayter penning the script. So there you have it. Perhaps LOST PLANET might actually turn out to be a pretty awesome movie. Keep it here for updates as we hear them!
