Bill Burr to write, direct and star in Old Dads comedy for Miramax

Bill Burr is set to perform triple duty for his latest project as Deadline has reported that he’s set to write, direct, and star in Old Dads, an original comedy which will be produced by Miramax and All Things Comedy.

Old Dads will find Bill Burr playing a middle-aged father with Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine also starring as his two best friends. After selling their company to a millennial (we’re just the worst) they “find themselves out of step and behind the times as they hilariously struggle to navigate a changing world of culture, career and fatherhood.” Burr wrote the script alongside Ben Tishler and production on Old Dads kicked off yesterday in Los Angles.

I’m very excited to start shooting Old Dads,” Bill Burr said. “This comedy is based on my own and my co-writer, Ben Tishler’s, lives. Miramax has been awesome to work with and I think people are really going to like this movie.” Miramax CEO Bill Block added, “Burr is one of the top comedic voices of his generation and he has written a script that’s not just unwaveringly funny, but also full of heart and unfiltered cultural commentary. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with him and this fantastic cast, including Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine.

Bill Burr recently appeared in Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin’s Dog but has also played Mayfeld across two seasons of The Mandalorian. While speaking to ScreenRant last year he expressed his desire to return for the third season. “Oh, I hope so,” Burr said. “Jon Favreau and Rick Famuyiwa, who wrote both of my episodes that I did – to be a small part of something that big that is that good that means so much to so many people. I’m obviously not allowed to say anything other than I just absolutely love being on that show and I hope it continues and if it doesn’t, I’ve had a blast. Bobby Cannavale will next be seen in Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde, which is set to be released later this year on Netflix. Bokeem Woodbine will next be seen in the Halo TV series set to debut on Paramount+ on March 24th.
