Last month, Jake to the D ran off a list of the surprisingly high-profile directors who were being targeted to helm the final TWILIGHT film, BREAKING DAWN. That list included Sophia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon. According to Deadline, Condon is close to getting the gig. While it’s not official, the site reports that there have been several meetings between Condon and Summit Entertainment, and they’re now negotiating the deal.
If Condon does indeed sign on, it would be a return of sorts to the man’s thriller roots (okay, I realize that TWILIGHT can’t truly be considered a “thriller”, but just go with it). While primarily known for directing classy fare like DREAMGIRLS, KINSEY and GODS AND MONSTERS (of course a biopic about FRANKENSTEIN James Whale), Condon toiled in the B-Movie field for years, with 1987’s SISTER, SISTER and 1995’s CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH among the horror titles to his name. He’s currently attached to a Richard Pryor biopic, but word is he would push that back to direct parts one and two of BREAKING DAWN. Yes, they’ll be shot back to back.
May god have mercy on his soul…
