Bill Murray set to star as a music manager in Rock The Kasbah

What’s the last good movie you saw Bill Murray in? Be honest. We all like Bill Murray that’s understood but did you see either HYDE PARK ON HUDSON or A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLIE SWAN III? Can’t say the guy doesn’t pick interesting projects. Remember PASSION PLAY? I know, you can’t forget. We’ll get to see him next in THE MONUMENTS OF MEN alongside George Clooney and Matt Damon. That certainly looks promising. There’s also Wes Anderson‘s THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL on the horizon.

Murray recently signed on to star in ROCK THE KASBAH. Yeah with a K, not a C. The Clash song immediately started playing in your head didn’t it? I can’t get it out of mine since I read the initial article. All my chatter aside, Murray will reunite with screenwriter Mitch Glazer for the flick which tells the story of the actor as “a burned-out music manager who goes to Afghanistan on the USO tour with his last remaining client. When he finds himself abandoned, penniless and without his passport, he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice, who stows away with him back to Kabul to compete on the popular television show, The Afghan Star, Afghanistan’s equivalent of American Idol.”

I like the idea of Murray playing a music manager. Think of the possibilities for the soundtrack as well. You have to put “Rock the Casbah” in it, right? How do we feel about Glazer as a writer though? I mean, you have to give him SCROOGED but what about PASSION PLAY? Not to mention that the rest of his resume is sort of “meh”. That’s just one person’s opinion though. The update of GREAT EXPECTATIONS didn’t suck either.

At least we’re not talking about GHOSTBUSTERS 3 again.
