Veteran English actor Bill Nighy (seen right) is in negotiations to appear in Len Wiseman’s TOTAL RECALL, so says The Hollywood Reporter. He’s set to join Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, Ethan Hawke, Bokeem Woodbine and the newly confirmed Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale (both below).

Nighy will play Quatto, the leader of the resistance. (In the 1990 movie, the character, called Kuato, was played by Marshall Bell with the conceit that the leader was actually a small mutant living off the human).

I love me some Bill Nighy, but that Marshall Bell performance will be hard to outshine.

Meanwhile, our pal Frosty over at Collider just landed confirmation of an inkling we’ve known about for some time now…Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale will indeed star in Columbia’s rehash of the Paul Verhoeven classic.

In specific, Beckinsale will play Lori, Quaid’s nefarious wife (originally played by Sharon Stone), while Biel will play Melina, Quaid’s intergalactic love interest (originally played by Rachel Ticotin). So Wiseman’s asking his real life wife, Beckinsale, to play Colin Farrell’s onscreen wife? Kinky stuff!

TOTAL RECALL begins shooting Monday in Toronto, boasting a new story that involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side. Vilos Cohaagen (Cranston) is the head of Euromerica, furtively devising an invasion of New Shanghai.

The flick bows August 3rd, 2012.
