Bird Box sings as Netflix’s most watched original film

The numbers are in, and according to recent calculations, 45,037,125 Netflix subscribers have tuned in to watch Susanne Bier's dramatic sci-fi horror BIRD BOX starring Sandra Bullock. Thanks to viewers singing the film's praises, the tension-filled thriller has given the streamer their best week ever for a Netflix Original film debut.

Word of the film's achievement comes by way of a tweet shared by Netflix Film, which you can check out for yourself below:

BIRD BOX stars Sandra Bullock (DEMOLITION MAN, OCEAN'S 8) and takes place five years after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide. As we enter the film, we join a mother (Bullock) and her two children as they make a desperate bid to reach safety. Starring alongside Bullock for the A QUIET PLACE-like sci-fi romp are Trevante Rhodes (MOONLIGHT, THE PREDATOR), John Malkovich (IN THE LINE OF FIRE, DANGEROUS LIASONS), Sarah Paulson (CAROL, GLASS), Jacki Weaver (ANIMAL KINGDOM, STOKER), Rosa Salazar (ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER), Danielle Macdonald (PATTI CAKES, DUMPLIN'), LIL REL HOWERY (GET OUT, TAG), and Tom Hollander (INTHE LOOP, GODSFORD PARK), among others.

Regardless of Netflix having yet to address how many viewers actually watched the film to completion, the intitial numbers being reported for BIRD BOX are quite impressive. After all, the streamer has been working hard for the past several years to sign big names to their original content, and now with BIRD BOX's success, the invite to be a part of their growing empire is bound to become all the more enticing.
