I know I may be saying something totally sacrilegious here, but I sort of think a remake of THE BIRDS could be cool. I mean, THE BIRDS doesn’t exactly have the same ability to withstand the test of time as say PSYCHO. The film looks really bad, and could use an update. So that’s why when I heard some fresh news about the remake of the film I wasn’t all “Another f*cking remake???!!!”
The news of a remake of THE BIRDS isn’t new, as it’s been often rumored about quite a bit, but what is new is this: Mandalay Pictures head Cathy Schulman spoke recently to Variety about the film, which means that it sounds closer to happening. She also had this to say: “We think we have a very contemporary take. In the original, the birds just showed up, and it was kind of like, why are the birds here? This time, there’s a reason why they’re here and (people) have had something to do with it. There’s an environmental slant to what could create nature fighting back.”
The trade paper also mentioned how Naomi Watts is a name they have looked at for quite some time to star in the film, although nothing is set in stone as of right now.
