I think it’s safe to say BLADE was a very acceptable comic adaptation. I think it’s even safer to say BLADE 2 surpassed it’s predecessor. Now why are these films so good? There’s very arguable points but my guess would be that the villains are just awesome!
If you agree with me at all then you’ll be stoked to hear today’s rumblings. Two different sources told two different websites the same thing: A BLADE spinoff is in the works. The spinoff in question? A prequel-trilogy on BLADE villain Deacon Frost. Yup… I just blew your mind! That badass baddie vamp from BLADE is getting his own trilogy. This is all according to BLADE director Stephen Norrington and Deacon Frost himself Stephen Dorff.
Way back in October Dorff had a little conversation with SundayMail.co.uk about this intriguing trilogy: “It will be a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon’s story. It’s a new trilogy the director [Norrington] has created. It will cool….Frost is a character I have never been able to shake.” He also mentions that the hopes were to start filming this year…
Well considering Norrington is hard at work on THE CROW remake (BOO!) it may be a bit longer than Dorff expected… how do I know that? Well the guys over at Mania spoke to Norrington through their Comics2Film arm about Dorff’s announcement. Norrington shed some light on exactly what’s going on: “…not exactly how the article describes but close. The linkage to ‘Blade’ is still big in the equation.” Apparently the idea was all Dorff’s and it just stemmed into a proposed trilogy of films.
Well damn… I didn’t see this one coming. So what do you think? Norrington and Dorff set to bring us more adventures of Deacon Frost after this CROW fiasco. Think a cameo by a certain tax evader is in the cards? I highly doubt it. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one so be sure to check back for updates.
