Blade Runner 2049’s Sylvia Hoeks joins Girl With The Dragon Tattoo sequel

Fresh off of owning her role as Luv in Denis Villeneuve's BLADE RUNNER 2049, Variety has announced exclusively that actress Sylvia Hoeks is in talks to join the cast of THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, a sequel to THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.

Back in September, it was announced that Claire Foy had signed onto the thriller to star as Lisbeth Salander, the Dragon Tattoo franchise's gothy and mysterious female lead. Production on the new film is expected to begin in January in Berlin and Stockholm, with the final product expected to hit theaters come October 19, 2018. While Sony was reluctant to comment on Hoeks' casting, we do know that Sylvia would step into the role of Salander's evil twin sister in the Fede Alvarez-directed sequel.

In what will be a new direction for the series, THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB is set to be the first in the franchise to be produced as an English-speaking film for its primary adaptation. In the past, the books were adapted into three Swedish-language films, starring Noomi Rapace. Rooney Mara then stepped into the role of Salander for Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO with James Bond actor Daniel Craig as her co-star.

With this casting reveal, it's obvious that Hoeks' star is on the rise, and it likely won't be long before we see her attached to other high-profile projects, down the line.

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB will spin its way into theaters beginning on October 19, 2018.
