I feel like it’s a crime that I haven’t seen Ridley Scott’s BLADE RUNNER. God knows I want to but the DVD and I just have yet to cross paths. If you’re unlike me and have actually had the chance to see the classic sci-fi adventure then you’ll be stoked to hear today’s news!
Don’t worry though folks. I’m NOT talking about a remake. I know, shocker… but give it time. Instead today I’m here to tell you about a brand new web series based on BLADE RUNNER! That’s right. A brand new series on the good ol’ interwebs depicting the world of the futuristic Los Angeles found in BLADE RUNNER. And get this one… Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, and Luke Scott are attached to this venture!
Scott’s RSA Films banner is teaming with independent studio Ag8 to bring us PUREFOLD. The series will consist of 5-10 minute shorts made for the web with the chance of hitting television sometime in the future. Here’s the tricky part though.. PUREFOLD will be set in a time just prior to the events in BLADE RUNNER but won’t have anything else to do with the film. Reason being is that Scott and company don’t own the rights to Philip K. Dick’s DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? which is the novel BLADE RUNNER is based off of. Hopes are that the first episode of PUREFOLD will hit the web later this Summer and will deal with ‘what it means to be human and understanding the notion of empathy.’ It’ll be set two years in the future and pegs BLADE RUNNER as inspiration.
To read up on more about PUREFOLD over at the New York Times you can head right over HERE! Hey if Ridley Scott and company are involved maybe it’ll actually be worth checking out.
