The BLAIR WITCH PROJECT gang is returning to bring us some more spooky shenanigans with THE POSSESSION, according to an article in Variety. BLAIR WITCH co-director Eduardo Sanchez is re-teaming with Haxan Films on the thriller, which is yet another entry into the possessed-chick subgenre that will never go away. (Not saying I want it to, it’s just growing tiresome, especially considering so many of them are lame.)
The flick explores the thin line between demonic possession and psychosis; it starts off as a simple horror film about things that go bump in the night but slowly turns into a thriller about the evil power that exists inside one troubled young woman.
Okay, so perhaps the twist is the chick isn’t really possessed at all, but just a loon. Hey, we’ve all made that mistake.
Former New Line Cinema executive Mark Ordesky (LORD OF THE RINGS) is on board as producer, as are Haxan’s Robin Cowie and Gregg Hale. The latter two teamed with Sanchez on his last two directorial efforts: ALTERED and SEVENTH MOON.
Meanwhile, a new BLAIR WITCH PROJECT is nowhere to be found, although I’m sure it’ll be brought up again at some point, as happens every year…
