Blair Witch to return?

I’m proud to say that I was NOT among the droves in ’99 who fell for the BLAIR WITCH craze. A decade later, I’ve still only seen bits and pieces. Which is fine with me.

But given the phenomenon that is PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, it’s no big surprise that BLAIR WITCH co-writer/director Daniel Myrick has come out of the woodworks to shed some shine on his opinion about the similar shoestring budgeted spook-fest. Oh, and he mentions some future projects he has in the works.

In particular, Myrick states that he quite enjoyed PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and since its being compared to his own shocking-word-of-mouth-template (made in 1999 with creative partner Eduardo Sanchez), he offers some advice to fellow filmmaker Oren Peli (which you can catch HERE, courtesy of EW).

But it’s more about what Myrick has in store for the future that intrigues the most. He claims:

“I’ve got a project called SAVANT that is making the rounds and we’re trying to get it set up, I’m hoping, for next year. It’s a psychological thriller about a man who has been incarcerated and has this unique ability to convince normal people to become mass murderers by just talking to them. So it’s a dark thriller. I wrote the script a couple of years ago.”

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Wyrick continues, coming full circle to BLAIR WITCH territory, adding:

“And Ed and I are both circling around some other Blair ideas. We’re thinking about collaborating again. With this whole Paranormal Activity thing, there’s a spotlight shining back on Blair. So the timing might be right. Who knows? We’ll see how it goes.”

What do you think? Can you stomach another BLAIR WITCH PROJECT?
