Blake Lively & Scarlett Johansson fight to share Gravity with Bob Downey Jr.!

As if IRON MAN isn’t powerful enough…dude’s got two A-list lookers vying for his affection!

Well, sort of. Word today comes from THR that Blake Lively (below) and Scarlett Johansson (right, below) are duking it out to play the female lead in Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi thriller GRAVITY, which already has Bob Downey Jr. attached as the male lead. If Mr. Downey has any say in this matter, I think I know who he’ll be selecting, don’t you?!?

Of course I mean Johansson, who Downey obviously knows from his time working on that epic Tony Stark sequel. Not only that, Scarlett has far more experience than Lively, and despite what you may think of her acting chops, she’s done work for an impressive list of directors that includes Woody Allen, Sofia Coppola, Terry Zwigoff, Chris Nolan, Brian De Palma, and let’s not forget about her participation in the Coen bros. most underrated flick, THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE. A no brainer it would seem for Downey, if he had his druthers of course.

For those who missed it, GRAVITY revolves around astronauts repairing the Hubble telescope who are hit with an avalanche of satellite junk. In a plot akin to “Cast Away,” the surviving astronaut must fight her way back to Earth, where she hopes to reunite with her daughter.

Angelina Jolie was briefly attached to the flick at Universal, but the project has since moved on to Warner. Marion Cotillard was also briefly considered to play the female lead, which you can tell by the plotline, is the crux of the film. Lively and Johansson are said to have tested for the role last week.

Alright, so you’ve heard my case. If you were Cuaron and Downey, who would you choose to play the female lead…Lively or Johansson?
