Blumhouse Productions and NBCUniversal sign 10-year production deal

Blumhouse forever!

Well, for the next 10 years at least. In the wake of another strong finish for a Blumhouse genre film, THE PURGE: ANARCHY (which brought in more than $28 million at the box office this past weekend), Universal Pictures and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions have made a new 10-year first-look production agreement, according to Deadline. This can only mean more genre goodness coming our way over the next decade and that's sits good with me!

This new deal will include Blumhouse partnerships with NBCUniversal businesses, including Universal Television and Universal Cable Productions. Blumhouse will bring its SINISTER franchise to Focus Features, making Universal home to three of the company’s most profitable micro-budget franchises, including THE PURGE and INSIDIOUS, which is already based at Focus.

Next up for Blumhouse is the supernatural thriller OUIJA, which was riginally conceived as a big-budget Hasbro film but was finally made for comparatively low budget and will be released in time for Halloween. Following that is THE BOY NEXT DOOR with Jennifer Lopez, opening January 23, and the next INSIDIOUS film from Focus. Others in development include Ti West's IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE starring Ethan Hawke and John Travolta.

In addition to the new film relationship, Blumhouse will also be forming partnerships with NBCUniversal to provide a variety of content including network and cable television shows, digital properties and more. In recent years, Blumhouse has been ramping up its television business. The company is working on both scripted and non-scripted shows including projects for Syfy (“Ascension,” which is currently in production), MTV (“Eye Candy”), ABC and Mike Darnell. Blumhouse previously executive produced the Emmy nominated and Critics’ Choice award winner “The Normal Heart” for HBO, “Stranded” for Syfy and “The River” for ABC.

So how does this news sit with you? Are you down for more content from Blumhouse Productions? What Blumhouse film are you most looking forward to seeing?
