Sony and Universal have both decided to change the release dates of Blumhouse Productions projects they have on their slate, and they both happened to decide to move these projects forward two weeks.
The first one to reach theatres will be Sony's FANTASY ISLAND, which puts a horror twist on the Fantasy Island television series that aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984 (and had a brief revival in 1998). Michael Pena stars as island host Mr. Roarke, with Lucy Hale as
one of the guests who is anxious to see her fantasy realized. Roarke warns guests that they should never bank on what they fantasize.
FANTASY ISLAND was directed by Jeff Wadlow from a script he wrote with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. Other cast members include Ryan Hansen, Jimmy O. Yang, Michael Rooker, Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, and Portia Doubleday.
Originally set to reach theatres on February 28, 2020, FANTASY ISLAND is now set for release on February 14th.
But there will still be a Blumhouse release on February 28th, because Universal has moved the company's reboot of the classic film THE INVISIBLE MAN from a March 13th release to the date FANTASY ISLAND vacated.
Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, this new take on THE INVISIBLE MAN is about
a billionaire sociopath who made his money by developing an invisibility suit for the Department of Defense.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays the title character and is joined in the cast by Elisabeth Moss, Storm Reid, Aldis Hodge, and Harriet Dyer.
So we've got one Blumhouse reboot to look forward to on February 14th and another just two weeks later on February 28th… and now that THE INVISIBLE MAN has left its March date, there are currently no wide theatrical horror releases scheduled for that Friday the 13th.
