Roberto Orci unsure of the future for the Amazing Spider-man franchise

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were a superstar duo with their writing and producing talents spread across multiple franchises and television shows. But, as the pair have gone their separate ways, it remains to be seen what will become of the projects there were partnered on. Orci has been named the director on STAR TREK 3 and while he develops that project, it looks like his involvement with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 follow-up films may not be as clear as Sony led us to believe.

Speaking to IGN, Orci revealed that he is not officially involved with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, THE SINISTER SIX, or VENOM. When asked for some tidbits about the future of the Marvel franchise, this is what he said.

“I don’t know what their plans are for that franchise. I don’t ever want to say never, but we have to figure out what their scheduling is in terms of when they want each movie. I’ve read probably as much as anyone else. There’s a love for the Sinister Six, the idea of Venom — there’s an idea of Spider-Man’s going to be one of these characters that’s part of our business. He’s such a popular character. Spider-Man’s not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined.”

While THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 performed well at the box office earlier this summer, it definitely underwhelmed compared to the Raimi films and expectations from Sony who predicted a billion dollar gross worldwide for Marc Webb‘s film. Orci could still have involvement with the series and is just in STAR TREK 3 mode right now or he truly could be stepping away from the runaway train that Sony has on their hands. Hopefully things are not quite as tenuous as they seem from these comments.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 is still currently slated to hit theaters on June 10th, 2016.
