Boggy Creek director Charles B. Pierce dies

Charles B. Pierce, whose documentary-style 1972 horror movie THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK was a most definite influence on THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, among others, died this past weekend. He was 71.

Pierce also directed the 1977 suspense film THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN, a flick about a hooded murderer terrorizing a town – when I watched it last October, I sensed that filmmakers like John Carpenter and Rob Zombie were familiar with the flick.

Huge fans of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” like myself will always remember Pierce’s BOGGY CREEK II: AND THE LEGEND CONTINUES making for one of the best episodes of the beloved show. (“I saw the little creature!”) He also played the main character, Dr. Brian Lockart. Check out the trailer for the original BOGGY CREEK right HERE.

His other credits include WINTERHAWK, GRAYEAGLE, THE NORSEMAN, and SACRED GROUND. Pierce also worked as a set decorator in the 70s and 80s. Rest in peace, Charles.
