Boll splits Siege, makes Event

How anyone can give this much money and leeway to this man is beyond me.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Producer-director (and ultimate ruiner of videogame-to-film adaptations) Uwe Boll has created a new distribution company, Event Film, which will release the $60 million IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE (whatever happened to just DUNGEON SIEGE?) in two separate parts in wide release on Nov. 3, 2006, and Dec. 1, 2006. Boll said it will be “a huge epic adventure, and to support the exhibitors who can’t accept a movie so long, we decided to split the movie in half.” So it’s one of those ‘double your pleasure, or double your pain’ things? Your choice.

Each film will run about 105 minutes and the plan is to release a bundled version of the film on DVD in 2007. Event Film Distribution will work together with Romar — a venture in which Billy Zane and Jim Schramm are partnered — on both DUNGEON SIEGE and BLOODRAYNE. BLOODRAYNE opens Jan. 6, and Schramm, Romar’s founder and CEO, said he already has booked 2,100 theaters and is shooting for 2,500 or more.

Now, if someone can explain to me how ‘gems’ like HOUSE OF THE DEAD and ALONE IN THE DARK enable Boll to not only get his own distribution company, but also an ‘epic’ like DUNGEON SIEGE split into two films to be shown months apart, by all means tell me, since I have no idea.

From the looks of the poster, Boll will unfortunately end up putting the ‘dung’ in DUNGEON SIEGE…
