With IO Interactive’s 007: First Light continuing to make headlines for its fantastic portrayal of James Bond’s first mission with MI6, fans of the beloved superspy are climbing the walls for any news about casting plans for Denis Villeneuve’s Bond 26, the next installment of the core film franchise. According to Deadline, the next round of auditions for Bond will commence later this summer, possibly in August. Reports say Villeneuve is calling talent directly, though no names have leaked into the wild. Amazon MGM Studios is remaining tight-lipped about the process, for obvious reasons.
The search for the next James Bond continues
The search for the next James Bond dates back to the spring of 2025, when producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman began the hunt in earnest. Reports say Nina Gold, who closed a deal in April to be the casting director for Bond 26, has been meeting with lesser-known actors for several weeks to determine whether to add their names to the priority list. With those auditions out of the way, Villeneuve, Pascal, and Heyman are starting to contact other players for the next round. Names like Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi are swirling as we wait impatiently for more information, but, again, Amazon won’t say a word.
Betting it all on Bond
Regardless of the process, Amazon should paint a target on its next Bond actor soon if it wants production to start on time. I understand why they’re taking their time, though. Choosing the next Bond is a monumental decision. If they get it wrong, all hell could break loose. Online backlash grows by the minute, and if fans don’t like Amazon’s choice, they could face an uphill battle for as long as it takes for the film to reach theaters. Also, Bond contracts are fierce and binding. If they choose the wrong actor, and that person belongs to the franchise for the next chapter or two, that’s a whole other bag of cats.
Who do you think should play the next James Bond in Denis Villeneuve’s Bond 26? I like the idea of Jacob Elordi playing the part, but finding an unknown actor could also be a good way to go. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
