Borat director Larry Charles and Nic Cage team for Osama Bin Laden movie

You never know what to expect from a Nicolas Cage movie these days. Usually, you can bank that it is not going to be very good but there have been a few rare occasions where the Oscar-winning actor still surprises us. The just announced ARMY OF ONE could be one of those surprises.

The Weinstein Company has acquired the distribution rights to the film ARMY OF ONE, a comedy to be directed by BORAT's Larry Charles. Despite having a screenplay by DRAFT DAY scribes Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph, the film is described as "semi-scripted" which likely means Charles plans to use the same approach Sacha Baron Cohen did with their collaborations.

ARMY OF ONE is based on a GQ article about Colorado construction worker Gary Faulkner who took it upon himself to try and locate the elusive Osama Bin Laden. The real story included Faulkner trying to get into Afghanistan and Pakistan numerous times, so who knows what kinds of laughs that will ellicit when Nicolas Cage tries to do it.

This is a different direction for Cage who has not made a comedy in quite some time. Well, intentional comedy that is. Larry Charles could be the director to give Cage the showcase he needs for a consistent reboot to his career. But, how many times have we said that before?

ARMY OF ONE is slated to begin filming before March, so we may see the movie by the end of the year.
