Born to Be Murdered: Netflix lands new John David Washington thriller

Like the opportunistic eagle, Netflix has swooped down to scoop up Born to Be Murdered, a thriller starring John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman, Tenet) and produced by Luca Guadagnino.

Also set to star in the nail-biting feature directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino are Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider, The Danish Girl), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Vicky Krieps (The Phantom Thread). The events of the film are set in Athens and the Epirus region of Greece, where a vacationing couple, played by Washington and Vikander, becomes ensnared in a violent conspiracy with tragic consequences.

In regards to Born to Be Murdered Netflix has yet to slap a date on Filomarino's upcoming film, which has a script written by Kevin Rice. Word is that the streamer is looking toward a 2021 release.

Washington certainly is a hot ticket nowadays. After catching eyes for his performance as Ricky Jerret on Ballers, he wowed audiences while playing Ron Stallworth for Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman. After that, Washington was off to play Lt. Kelly in The Old Man and the Gun, before moving onto his biggest project yet, leading Christopher Nolan's Tenet. My guess is that it won't be long now before we see Washington joining the superhero scene, perhaps as DC's Green Lantern, John Stewart? This is just a shot in the dark, of course, but that would be righteous, would it not?

We'll be sure to bring you any details for Born to Be Murdered as the film sorts out its Netflix premiere date.
