Brad Fuller confirms new Friday the 13th will not be found footage

For the last two years, we have heard lots of crazy stories about the next FRIDAY THE 13TH. Some had no Jason while others claimed the movie would be found footage. All rumors have pissed off fans who are looking for a solid slasher movie unlike we have seen in years. Now there is at least one silver lining for this sequel.

Producer Brad Fuller has revealed to Shock Till You Drop that based on the fan outcry to the found footage approach, Platinum Dunes has dropped plans to use the format.

“I could just say that for a long time we were stalled,” Fuller tells Shock. “I think you guys reported that the movie was going to be a found footage movie and that was a road that we went down and tried to figure out. Ultimately, I think Michael, Drew and I felt that we couldn’t figure that out, so we kind of jettisoned that whole notion and we had to start over. We’re in the latter phases of that starting over and hopefully we’re getting a script in the next month or two, and we’ll go back to Crystal Lake.”

Fuller went on to say that the plans for the new FRIDAY THE 13TH are to take the presence of Jason Voorhees and do something new with him. While Fuller did say they are returning to Crystal Lake, the movie will not be found footage, and will have Jason, I am not sure how it will vary much from the last ten takes on the character. But, if the movie can improve on the 2009 reboot, I may be willing to give it a shot.

FRIDAY THE 13TH is slated to hit theaters on May 13, 2016.
