According to an interview with Fangoria, Branagh is very interested in remaking Jacques Tourneur’s 1957 film NIGHT OF THE DEMON, and is actively trying to secure the rights as we speak. Specifically, Branagh feels that DEMON is a sensational movie and I think it’s ripe for redoing
For me, if the original is ‘sensational,’ then it probably doesn’t need redoing at all–it’s probably fine just the way it is. But it sounds like Branagh is looking to go a different direction with it than the film, as it was based on a book by Montague Rhodes James.
I thought MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENSTEIN was OK, but couldn’t really ‘buy’ Robert DeNiro as the monster… again, it was a tale that should have been left alone, and yet since the movie was ‘sensational’ and it was based on a book, Branagh had to do his own version.
To check out the entire video interview with Branagh, head over THIS WAY, and stick around as to whether we hear more about Branagh’s NIGHT OF THE DEMON!, or if it fizzles out with the rest of ‘possible’ project ideas.
