Breck Eisner eyes Blood of the Innocent as next directing gig

Breck Eisner’s THE CRAZIES hits DVD and Blu-ray at the end of this month (PRE-ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY), a film that has gathered Eisner attention for his eye as a genre director. He has the remakes of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and FLASH GORDON on his plate, but that hasn’t stopped him from looking on into the future to his next gig after that.

FearNet had a chance to talk with Insight Studios comic book creator Mark Wheatley recently, who had this to say about Eisner’s upcoming projects… He’s trying to make Blood of the Innocent the picture he does after Escape. He and the writer have been working on the pitch.

BLOOD OF THE INNOCENT? What the shit is that? Oh wait, we have the details right here in Wheatley’s own words: Well, this may take a while, but I’ll say it right now. It’s Dracula versus Jack the Ripper… [Laughs.] That’s it. That’s the whole concept.

Nice! Two murdering motherf*ckers battling it out in the streets, taking… the blood of the innocent! I like it! And if Eisner can really get this off the ground, then all the power to him. At least it’s not a remake… the guy should really try and do something new, and while it’s based on a comic series, it’s still more original than another ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
