As you probably know by now, the writer-director team of Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor recently left their beloved JONAH HEX project over the age-old “creative differences” – but now the question being raised is: With whom? Was it with DC Comics? Producers Andrew Lazar and Akiva Goldsman? Or… Josh Brolin?
MTV has a rather interesting interview with Brolin, who has been tentatively attached to the project for months, where he simply comes out and says that the script sucks but he’d love to do it with, you know, good directors. Read on for the very amusing snippets. (Keep in mind this interview was conducted only a few days before the “official” announcement that Nevaldine and Taylor were no longer involved).
“When I first read it I thought, oh my God it’s awful! And then I had a moment a week later and I thought why is it awful? Maybe the thing to do is to do the most awful movie I can find.”
Hardly encouraging words for the creative team behind it… Then Brolin flexes his “but what if these motherf*ckers weren’t involved?” muscles and all becomes clear…
“In the last couple months I’ve been going back and forth about it. I went back to my gut. Is it a sell out? What is it I like about this movie? … It’s so tongue in cheek. It’s so ridiculous. But once I started putting people in my mind and saying what if I put Malkovich in this role then what does this movie become? Now let’s put this producer and director on it and think about how it plays out. Then it becomes fun. Now I love that movie. If you have a great filmmaker come in then suddenly these gags and characters become interesting.”
Now all we have to wait for is a retort from the CRANK 1 and 2 directors, which I can’t wait to hear, OMG! They’re like, totally going to be soooo mad at Josh. I hope they make up, cuz they’re so good together, but then again I’m such a gossipy bitch and I love catfights! LOL!!! (Okay everyone, I apologize for that and promise not to let my 16-year-old alter-ego “Vanessa” enter this forum ever again… TWILIGHT made me do it!)
