Bruce Campbell talks Ash Vs. Evil Dead, wanting to take on The Walking Dead

You can expect to hear a lot from Bruce Campbell from now until the end of the year. (Well, until the end of Bruce Campbell’s life, truth be told.) The burly-chinned actor is gearing up for production on Starz’s “Ash Vs. Evil Dead”, which his old pal Sam Raimi is producing and directing the pilot for. The show airs this fall, so we’ve got a bit of a wait ahead of us, but Bruce is already talking up a storm to help us get pumped.

In an interview with Dread Central, Campbell let on what we can expect from his put-upon hero Ash, saying:

I’m bringing everything to the table. It’s a feisty version of Ash, who’s grizzled and just wants to be left alone.”

Isn’t that Ash all over… Additionally, Bruce commented on that other popular series dealing with the undead, and threw a few shots – as well as a compliment – its way:

We are competitive with ‘The Walking Dead,’ like, ‘We’ll show those fuckers!’ [Our] Deadites are very clever. They not stupid shufflers. They can mimic people; they can drive cars. They’re a fun threat. They [‘The Walking Dead’] are right up there [though] with being responsible for the current resurgence [of horror].”

The Chin also talked up his new castmembers, Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo, as well as the longterm plan for “AvED”:

I was there during the casting process, and they’re very talented,” said Campbell. “Aside from the ensemble [aspect], they each needed to be able to hold their own because they’ll have their own series of missions. It’s an epic tale. How could you not [plan for that]? I’m a strong proponent of the ‘big picture’ plan, and we are planning for five seasons.”

I think I can handle five seasons of deadite madness!

Okay, enough talk, Bruce, you’re probably needed on set. Let’s get this groovy new show on the road.
