Bryan Singer pushes back Jack the Giant Killer start to 2011

For those of you hoping that Bryan Singer would quickly direct JACK THE GIANT KILLER for Warner Bros. so he can return to the X-MEN universe as soon as possible, I have a bit of bad news for you. It was originally assumed that Singer would be done with JACK and ready for X-MEN in 2012 but now that looks like a stretch. New Line has pushed back the start date on JACK THE GIANT KILLER from this summer to February of 2011.

Singer had been talking to actors for the film (including KICK-ASS star Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield) but Singer eventually realized he needed more time to work on the complex visual effects for the film. Singer wants to previz the entire movie from start to finish before he begins working. This will allow him to see a rough version of the giants alongside the actors during filming.

Is it me or does this sound like an insanely expensive movie? This might make sense if it were a proven property but a “Jack and the Beanstalk” story? There’s got to be more to this film but I still can’t wrap my head around it. Am I the only one who thinks a big-budget 3D version of “Jack and the Beanstalk” is the last thing we need?
