Buffy to slay again?

So it seems that sexy little vampire slayer is finally seeing a resurrection… but this time Joss Whedon is stepping aside. Even though Whedon is sitting this one out that doesn’t mean some BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER alumn aren’t returning… and no I’m not talking about Sarah Michelle Gellar (below) or Kristy Swanson. No, I’m talking about the original film’s director Fran Rubel Kuzui! Kuzui is teaming with husband Kaz Kuzui and both Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment to bring BUFFY back!

But mind you this isn’t a ‘sequel’ or ‘prequel’ but is a ‘remake’ or ‘reimagining.’ According to The Hollywood Reporter they’re looking to completely revamp the story without stepping on the BUFFY world already created. This remake will have nothing at all to do with the television series and won’t reference popular characters like ‘Angel, Willow, Xander, and Spike.’

Right now the producers are listening to pitches from various writers, looking to make this film a ‘dark, event-sized flick with franchise potential.’ It’s also interesting to note they haven’t ruled out Whedon’s potential involvement but have yet to approach him.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the BUFFY tv show but I did dig the movie. With all the ridiculous PG-13 vampire love Hollywood is currently giving let’s hope this one doesn’t turn into some watered down The CW reject. Keep it here as we hear more.
