There’s some news dropping over at Dread Central about Stephen King’s FROM A BUICK 8 and H.P. Lovecraft’s THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP. First FROM A BUICK 8. I reported on Tobe Hooper taking the reigns of FROM A BUICK 8 last month. Now some early art for the flick can be seen above. It’s pretty simple, but it works for me. I especially like the messy 8 they have going. Dread Central recently spoke to producer Etchie Stroh, who said the film is close to getting started. The script just needs the ok from Tobe Hooper and Stephen King. Hooper currently has the script and will pass it off to King soon.
Filming is set to begin in Pennsylvania (which is also the setting of the book) in early 2008, despite no casting for the film yet. So sounds like names are going to be getting attached to this one soon. The official synopsis for FROM A BUICK 8 is: When State Trooper Curtis Wilcox is killed under strange circumstances, many unanswered questions are left for his teenage son Ned. The State Troopers have protected a secret for many years: a Buick left at a service station by a mysterious stranger that became Curtis’ obsession. The Buick has unusual features – including the ability to suck in and consume bystanders and cough up nightmarish creatures in exchange. Ned, convinced that the car played a role in his father’s untimely death, decides to destroy it…whatever the cost may be.

The script was written by actor/writer Johnathon Schaech and Richard Chizmar, they’ll also be producing along with Mick Garris, Etchie Stroh, and Robert Katz. Some other news coming from AFM via Dread Central is on H.P. Lovecraft’s THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP. Pretty much the same news as FROM A BUICK 8. There’s some new art for the flick, found above. They hope to get things rolling on THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP in early 2008. Director Stuart Gordon and writer Dennis Paoli are putting the finishing touches on the script as we speak.
THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP is baed on H.P. Lovecraft’s short story of the same name. As I stated, it was written by Dennis Paoli and directed by Stuart Gordon.
