Bullet Train: What Did You Think?

David Leitch rarely lets us down when it comes to creative, hard-hitting action, and he’s back on the scene with Bullet Train. The action flick from the Deadpool 2 director is now playing in theaters after grossing $4.6 million from Thursday previews.

Based on the book by Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train stars Brad Pitt as Ladybug, an unlucky assassin determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs gone off the rails. Fate, however, may have other plans, as Ladybug’s latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe—all with connected, yet conflicting, objectives—on the world’s fastest train. In addition to Brad Pitt, the film boasts quite the eclectic cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A. Martínez Ocasio, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Sandra Bullock, and more.

The film is currently sitting at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, but our own Chris Bumbray was one of those who had a lot of fun with the movie. “Bullet Train is what it would be like if you took Knives Out, Murder on the Orient Express, John Wick and Rumble in the Bronx and threw them into a blender,” Bumbray wrote in his review. “It’s an utterly over-the-top action flick, but with very little in the way of tent-pole movies before October, it’s maybe our last great option for a blast of big-screen action we’ll see for a bit. It’s superior to the recent Gray Man because it focuses on character, albeit with heavy doses of humour that might turn off more traditional action fans. If you can take it as a romp, it’s a total blast, with some fantastic cameos.” You can check out the rest of Chris Bumbray’s review right here.
