Cage talks Rider 2

One of the biggest comic book adaptation disappointments had to be last year’s GHOST RIDER. The film had the makings of being awesome, with a killer cast (Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley, Sam Elliot, Peter Fonda), cool effects, and an overall interesting premise. But like other comic book films directed by Mark Steven Johnson, the film looked good… but sucked the big one in the end.

That said, it made a f*ckload of money and so it’s no surprise that Columbia Pictures is thinking about doing a sequel, at least, according to Cage. ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with Cage for his upcoming action flick BANGKOK DANGEROUS, in which he divulged some information regarding GHOST RIDER 2. Check it out:

[I] had a nice meeting with the studio about 3-months ago, and we talked about going international with that character. Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he’s connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with “The Da Vinci Code” and things like that.

GHOST RIDER 2: IN EUROPE? I suppose there are worse ideas out there, and hell–maybe a change of setting is just what the franchise needs. I’ve read a few of the comics but not all of them, so I don’t know if there’s any source material for this idea, or just an idea the studio came up with on a whim. As long as Johnson doesn’t return to direct, I’m game to check it out.

Maybe Mendes will be back for the sequel as well!
