Cameron Crowe wants to direct Dua Lipa as Dazzler for the MCU

Cameron Crowe is beyond almost famous, so it may be no surprise that he could be ripe for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most successful movie franchise ever. It turns out Crowe would be interested in making a Dazzler movie, with none other than Dua Lipa as the star.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Cameron Crowe was approached with the idea to direct an MCU movie, particularly one starring the music-centric Dazzler aka Alison Blaire, who, according to Marvel, “constantly struggles to balance her life as a singer and a Super Hero.” The character was first introduced in 1980, just two years before Crowe penned the screenplay for his breakout Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Cameron Crowe admitted he had never heard of Dazzler, but thinks she’d be the perfect introduction for him into the MCU. As far as who could play Dazzler, he was thrown a few suggestions before he settled on English singer Dua Lipa. “I’m feeling Dua Lipa for this. Tomorrow I’ll be like, ‘Yeah, I’ve been thinking about Dua for Dazzler, you know, I’ve been thinking about this for a while.’ And giving you no credit.”

While that part was told in a jesting manner, Cameron Crowe did throw some genuine respect towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe, teasing just how fun it could be. “Doing a movie like that could be a blast. You can have character development and all that deep stuff and also have spectacle. You can do it. And it’s heading there, clearly.” Could Cameron Crowe be “heading” to the MCU? It does seem like a far-fetched idea, but his admiration and respect for the franchise does put him in good light.

In the interview, Cameron Crowe primarily focused on the Almost Famous musical, which will have its Broadway debut in November. The musical ran in San Diego in 2019. On the 2000 movie itself, Crowe said, “I don’t think you could make Almost Famous, certainly at the level that we made it at, today, for sure.”

Cameron Crowe has not directed a feature film since 2015’s Aloha, which stands as his worst-reviewed movie to date.

What do you think? Would Cameron Crowe fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Would Dua Lipa make a good Dazzler? Is he long overdue for a comeback? Let us know below!
