Cannes’ Colin cost $70

Okay, so apparently there is a brand new zombie movie screening at Cannes that is seriously taking a huge bite out of the competition. And the major “grab you” factor about this flick? It only cost $70 to make. First off, please excuse me for not freaking out as much as the other publications. I’m sorry, but it just ain’t too easy for me to swallow a marketing ploy such as this. I highly doubt that this thing cost a mere $70 to create from beginning to end… but I’m also fairly certain that it was still conceived on an extreme shoestring budget.

Oh yeah, the movie is called COLIN and it is the brainchild of 30 year-old British director, Marc Price, and I will admit that the premise does sound happily original: Colin gets bitten by a zombie, dies, and then comes back from the dead. From that point on, the entire story is told from his zombified point of view. That seems to be the main selling point for this flick: the fact that we are watching everything from a zombie’s perspective. I’m not exactly sure how this is going to be pulled off, but a bunch of Japanese distributors are already in negotiations for the rights to the film. This must mean that it is indeed worth checking out… I guess. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least intruiged.

Price said that he was basically able to save so much money by hiring most of his “zombie” cast through postings on Facebook. No one was paid and a great deal of props were hand-me-downs from other films. All I’ll say is that Mr. Price must have some pretty great or really stupid friends.
