Carrie Coon & Finn Wolfhard in talks to star in Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters

Who ya gonna call? With production on Jason Reitman's GHOSTBUSTERS film expected to kick off this summer, we've finally got our first piece of casting news for the upcoming sequel. Per Variety, it seems that Carrie Coon (The Leftovers) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) are currently in talks to join the project.

Details on the GHOSTBUSTERS sequel are sparse, but we do know that it will be set in the same universe as the first two films in the franchise. Variety's sources added that the story will focus on a single mom and her family, with Carrie Coon playing the mom and Finn Wolfhard playing her son. There had been rumblings that Jason Reitman didn't want to use anyone from the Stranger Things cast due to the similarities between the two stories, but Wolfhard's audition was said to have blown both Reitman and Sony executives away. Personally, I'm hugely excited by the possibility of Carrie Coon joining the cast. GONE GIRL, The Leftovers, Fargo, The Sinner, WIDOWS, and more, Coon is a damn force of nature. Jason Reitman will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. Finn Wolfhard has the third season of Stranger Things hitting Netflix on July 4, 2019 as well as IT: CHAPTER TWO on  September 6, 2019, THE GOLDFINCH on  October 11, 2019, and THE ADDAMS FAMILY on October 18, 2019. As for Carrie Coon, she was most recently seen in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and WIDOWS.

GHOSTBUSTERS is already set for a July 10, 2020 release.
