Mike Flanagan’s Carrie brings blood and chaos to Comic-Con with an emotional teaser trailer and release date for King’s classic tale

The staff at San Diego Comic-Con might want to check the stage for buckets of pig’s blood: Prime Video‘s Carrie is about to make a splash at this year’s fan-favorite celebration. Based on Stephen King’s legendary 1974 horror novel, the iconic story is getting a modern reimagining courtesy of Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass), and Comic-Con attendees are about to learn far more about the new series than they bargained for.

Carrie gets teased

I’m more taken with the new Carrie teaser than I’d anticipated. We’ve seen this story a handful of times before, but there’s something about Flanagan’s modern twist that intrigues me. Summer Howell is positively owning the role, and the focus on Carrie falling victim to the dangers of viral videos and other torture that never goes out of style does a great job of blending familiar beats from the original with new twists.

Carrie‘s coming to Prime

Premiering exclusively on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, the eight-episode series examines the characters and events that shape Carrie White’s transformation from an unassuming young woman into a scorned nightmare with telekinetic abilities.

What’s Carrie about?

Misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social-media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

Told over eight propulsive episodes, the series expands King’s cultural landmark — deepening its characters and tensions, and following the small, everyday choices that build toward a single, shattering night, in a gripping, deeply human story about kindness versus cruelty, and whether we’re witnessing the making of a hero, a monster, or something far more complicated.

Carrie brings Stephen King’s horror classic into the modern era

Flanagan’s series will expand the story beyond Carrie’s perspective, exploring the community surrounding her and the chain of events that lead to the infamous prom night tragedy. The updated setting allows the series to explore themes that have become increasingly relevant decades after King first introduced the character, including online harassment, cruelty on social media, and the impact of public humiliation.
