The talent that’s attached to Tim Burton’s SWEENEY TODD keeps getting better and better, as it’s shaping up to be what classic Burton is all about. First, Johnny Depp’s on board, then rumor’s of BORAT’s Sacha Baron Cohen joining the fun (though not confirmed), and now… Burton favorite Helena Bonham Carter has signed up for the ride!
Carter will play Mrs. Lovett (played on stage by Angela Lansbury), who disposes of her victim’s bodies by cooking them in ‘meat’ pies, and later teams up with the Demon Barber of Fleet Street (played here by Depp). Nice!
Generally speaking, when you combine Burton, Depp and Carter, you get one killer movie- and this one is looking like it won’t disappoint! And while I’m most definitely a fan of musicals, I have a feeling that I’ll most likely enjoy this one- if not for the stars, then at least for the dark and grisly subject matter.
TODD is set to start filming early next year for a holiday 2007 release. And stick around, as those rumors of Ali G being up in the mix should be confirmed or denied any day now!
