As it’s a slooooow day in the horror journalism world, I have to reach into another genre to find news. That’s okay though, because the genre happens to be of the post-apocalyptic thriller variety, and there are worse places to go. (I could be reporting on GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST because of the ghosts and shit, but I guess that might get me run out of town on a rail.)
The Hollywood Reporter tells us of a potentially cool flick called THE TRIBES OF OCTOBER, with a pretty sweet cast that includes Ray Stevenson (pictured right), James Caan, Robert Duvall, and the lovely Jaime King (pictured below). Here’s what the sucker is about: “October” is set in a future in which New York has become surrounded by an endless desert plagued by heat storms, and the city’s technology is such that nothing made after 1960 works any more. In this environment, a detective (Stevenson) goes after a Mafia don (Caan) who is going after the remnants of the NYPD, led by Duvall. The detective is simultaneously searching for the love of his life (King).
The film will be shot on a stage, using greenscreens. While that is getting a bit old (see THE SPIRIT, or better yet, don’t), it might be nifty in this context, especially considering there are three certified badasses in the picture, as well as sweet, sweet eye-candy in the form of Jaime King. Shooting begins this summer in Michigan.
