CBS Films snatch up rights to novel The Keep for Girl/Dragon Tattoo director

You guys remember way back in May, when Jake hit you all with the news that THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO director Niels Arden Oplev would be directing the big screen adaptation of Jennifer Egan’s THE KEEP with a script from Ehren Kruger? Of course you remember that! Now it’s been a few months but it seems we’ve finally got an update on this project via The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business blog. Check it.

It seems CBS Films have just inked a deal for the rights to the novel and is final negotiations for the adapted script by Kruger. Apparently THE KEEP has been wrapped up in all kinds of technical woes the past few years. You see way back in 2006 was when Kruger first adapted the novel into a screenplay, with plans on bringing it to the big screen of course. In 2008 Rogue Pictures, then a Focus Features division, snatched up the rights to this one. Unfortunately the project stalled when Relativity bought Rogue from Universal way back in early 2009 and as the kids say: The rest is history.

THE KEEP is about two estranged cousins, who reunite to renovate a dilapidated Eastern European castle, with creepy consequences. The book combines gothic tropes with modern twists, leading one reviewer to call it a mash-up of Kafka, Calvino and Poe.
