Chan-wook Park’s next

With the jury still largely out on Park Chan Wook’s new vampire take THIRST, the South Korean visionary is wasting no time forging ahead with future projects. The OLD BOY director has reportedly (Star News) shown interest in remaking the 2005 French film LE COUPERET (THE AX).

The flick, based on the tome by Donald Westlake (THE STEPFATHER), has a grisly plot entailing the moral demise of a nine-to-five paper pusher. The man is said to slowly spiral into a state of utter insanity after losing his job. His family is losing faith, losing money, basically unraveling. So what does the man do? He goes fuc*ing ballistic, murdering 7 men in his competitive job market as a way to ensure employment. My kind of guy!

Though not a conventional horror film (although it’s codified in like 5 different genres), THE AX will be more in the vein of a Hitchcock thriller, and given the murderous storyline above, you can bet Park-Chan will lend his personal stamp of violence and mayhem to the proceedings (as we’ve come to expect in most of his films). No casting or release details have surfaced so far, but if Chan casts someone even half as smokin’ as Mercedes Cabral, dude has my instant 10 bones (no pun).
