Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek plan their escape in new Papillon trailer

Bleeker Street has debuted a rather intense and mind-bending trailer for PAPILLON, the upcoming prison drama starring PACIFIC RIM's Charlie Hunnam and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY's Rami Malek.

Based on the international best-selling autobiographic books "Papillon" and "Banco", the film follows the epic story of Henri "Papillon" Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil's Island. Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon's escape.

Directed by Michael Noer (NORTHWEST) and written by Aaron Guzikoswski (PRISONERS), PAPILLON stars Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Yorick Van Wageningen, Roland Moller, Tommy Flanagan, and Eve Hewson. Producing the intense action feature are Joey McFarland p.g.a., Ram Bergman and Roger Corbi.

Recently, Hunnam completed his work on A MILLION LITTLE PIECES, the story about a young drug-addled writer approaching the bottom of his descent submits to two months of agonizing detox at a treatment center in Minnesota. The SONS OF ANARCHY star will portray Bob Frey Jr. in the film. Additionally, Hunnam is now in the process of filming TRIPLE FRONTIER, an action crime adventure film centered around five friends who re-unite to take down a South American drug lord.

Furthermore, Rami Malek has recently wrapped his role as the legendary Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, for the production of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY. Next for Malek is a voice acting role in THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOOLITTLE starring Robert Downey Jr. as the health care professional who can commune with the animal kingdom.

PAPILLON will make a break for it in theaters on August 24th.
