Check out Gemma Arterton in fungal zombie flick The Girl with All the Gifts

Gemma Arterton has had a very solid career in a lot of pretty crummy films, but THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS might be her chance to hit her stride. A British zombie film in which the virus is spread by a fungus ("Ophiocordyceps unilateral") that infects the brain, it sounds part THE LAST OF US, part THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS, and all awesome.

The plot:

What’s left of the British population, now hunkered down in Birmingham, tries to find a cure from a single, intriguing anomaly: a group of children who have developed into a hybridised half-human, half-zombie state. The cold-eyed Dr. Caldwell experiments on them to find a cure for the pathogen.

Arterton plays Miss Justineau, "a teacher who’s formed a bond with Melanie, one of the kids." You can see her pictured below in battle duds with Paddy Considine's Sergeant Parks. The film also stars Glenn Close as the experimenting Dr. Caldwell.

Directed by Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders), THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS wrapped last May and will hit UK theaters on September 9, 2016.
