Check out the full trailer for HBO’s Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon

HBO has finally released a full trailer for the Liberace biopic BEHIND THE CANDELABRA and it shows a lot more than the teaser trailer from last month. The television film comes from director Steven Soderbergh and it could be the last film we see from him for a while if he does retire or at least goes on a sabbatical. The film stars Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as the world-renowned performer’s chauffeur and alleged live in lover Scott Thorson. BEHIND THE CANDELABRA is based on the autobiographical book by Thorson and is about his relationship with Liberace.

Check out the trailer and Rob Lowe‘s fantastic hair:

The trailer starts off a little slow but by the end I was sold. I don’t know if it is CGI or good ol’ fashioned make-up but it looks like someone took 20 years off of Michael Douglas‘ face in a couple of the shots. Steven Soderbergh is a unique director who sometimes seems to tackle a project “just because” (A film about male strippers? I’m your man! You think BEHIND THE CANDELABRA is too gay? Screw you, HBO will do it!) and if he does step away from theatrical releases I for one will be sad. But if Steven Soderbergh does quit it looks like BEHIND THE CANDELABRA could be a fantastic new beginning for his smaller projects.

BEHIND THE CANDELABRA stars Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Rob Lowe, Dan Aykroyd, and Debbie Reynolds, and will air on HBO on Math 26th, 2013.
