China censors Mummy

Fresh off their recent censoring of movies made and released in China, the Chinese government has requested that certain aspects of THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR be changed and recut before the film’s released in that country. Say what?

No details were given to press, only that changes must be made or Universal will be unable to release the film in the country where the film takes place and was actually shot. Considering all of the involvement China has had in the making of the film, it’s a surprise that they would demand cuts from the final product–you’d think they’d have OKed everything by this point.

Specifically the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television is the agency with the biggest problems / issues with the film’s current cut, but apparently what they say goes… or else!

Since the details on the level of cuts that must be made is unclear, it’s hard to tell whether this is truly a ‘big deal,’ or just another way to get THE MUMMY 3 in the news. Either way, I suppose it worked. To check out all the gorey details, click HERE, and get ready for THE TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR in North American theaters August 1st.
