China OKs Mummy

On Friday we learned that China was requesting a variety of cuts before allowing THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR to be released in their country (check that story HERE). Well folks, the standoff is over… THE MUMMY 3 has now been given the OK by China, with an end of August release date all lined up.

According to Bill Kong, producer and Universal’s distributor in Hong Kong and China, the changes demanded by Chinese authorities were so minor that they scarcely amounted to a cut. In other words, there wasn’t any censoring or ridiculous demands asked of Universal to change THE MUMMY 3 as had been speculated.

I’m glad to hear that the drama is all done and over with, and that China really isn’t the movie-hating monster the press make them out to be. Sure, they hate on themes of ghosts and other paranormal activities on the big screen, but in the entire scheme of things, it’s not really that big of deal. Stupid, yes, but not a big deal.
