Chiwetel Ejiofor near deal to star in Marvel’s Doctor Strange

Chiwetel Ejiofor could be in line for his first comic book movie. The Oscar nominated actor is being eyed by Marvel to take on a role in the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE film. He would join his 12 YEARS A SLAVE co-star Benedict Cumberbatch, who is starring as supreme Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange. It’s in early stages and Marvel hasn’t announced anything, so fingers crossed.

THR had their own thoughts on who he might play:

If Marvel feels like mixing up ethnicities, a possible role could be that of Wong, the monk servant to Strange who is adept in martial arts. Another possibility is the role of the Ancient One, a semi-immortal mystic who mentors Strange and is the Sorcerer Supreme of this dimension.

It's unclear which role Ejiofor is circling, but sources have come out and insisted it's not the villain, who is believed to be Baron Mordo, a sorcerer's pupil whose next in line status is usurped by Strange, and he obviously doesn’t take it well. It's speculation and it’s everyone's bread and butter, so eat that up. Ejiofor was previously in talks to be the lead villain in SPECTRE, but though those talks fell through. Personally I’d love to see him play a villain and I’m sure he'd have a lot of fun with it too.

DOCTOR STRANGE begins production this fall and will be directed by Scott Derrickson from a script by Jon Spaihts for a November 4, 2016 release.

Who do you think Ejiofor could or should be playing in DOCTOR STRANGE?
