Chris Hemsworth remembers “wild” Avengers group text after Jeremy Renner’s accident

Chris Hemsworth reflected on the fragility of life after Jeremy Renner was hospitalized following his January 1st accident.

Like so many – from collaborators to fans – Chris Hemsworth was shaken by the news of Jeremy Renner being hospitalized in early January after a snowplow accident left him with 30+ broken bones. Through both the accident and his MCU co-stars, Hemsworth began to acknowledge just how quickly life can be taken, as the Avengers united via a group text in the immediate aftermath.

In a new profile for GQ, Chris Hemsworth said that Jeremy Renner’s accident – in which he was run over by a 14,000+-pound snowcat while helping a family member free their car after a storm – offered an opportunity to put life into perspective, all while he and his Marvel family had no idea if Renner would pull through. “We were all on our Avengers text chain, we were all chatting. And it was wild. None of us really knew how serious it was…I think anything like that, it’s an immediate realisation of ‘Wow, any of us can go at any minute……We’re getting to the age now where we’re going to start losing people we love.” The 39-year-old actor added, “I don’t think I wanna turn 40…I still feel like I’m 25 and I’ve got heaps of time. Now I’m like, ‘Oh, I could be halfway. More than halfway.’…The reality of ‘I’m not going to be here forever’ is sinking in.”

While Jeremy Renner’s accident highlighted the true fragility of life, his recovery process – which he has been detailing over the last six months – has been a true inspiration. Renner has provided numerous updates for his fans on social media, proving that the old cliche of a “real-life superhero” is sometimes deserved.

While Chris Hemsworth didn’t specifically say who was on the group text, Scarlett Johansson previously told Variety that she and Chris Evans visited Jeremy Renner in the hospital, which probably points to a couple of big names. “I was honestly so fucking happy to see him. I didn’t know if I was ever going to see him again…To not only see him again but to see him thriving and in such an amazing space, mentally…And I just was so happy to see that he is full of life and light, and he’s also hilarious.”

While Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner haven’t shared the screen for some time now, the former has made time to reflect on his day of Thor and the negative feedback the MCU movies have gotten from major directors.
